Introduction to Computer Aided Design (CAD) with Rhino is an entry level workshop open to anyone interested in learning the basics of Rhino. Participants will be introduced to the Rhino environment, user interface, 2D and 3D design techniques, and best practices when designing for fabrication. Instruction will be given on the general workflow and design process for developing production ready files for 3D printing, laser cutting/engraving, and tips and tricks when working with primitive geometry to build digital and physical models. This workshop does NOT include 3d printing, laser cutting, or CNC routing time and will not go over machine operations. To learn how to operate the laser cutter, 3d printers, or CNC router you must sign up for one of the workshops that covers basic operations. What to expect: This workshop is for beginners to both CAD and Rhino that are interested in creating projects that can be fabricated using a laser cutter and/or 3D printer. It assumes no prior knowledge of the design or fabrication technologies involved and will likely be very basic if you already have significant working experience with Rhino. Participants can expect a hands on and project based learning approach. Expected outcomes:- Feel comfortable working in the Rhino environment- Be able to create and manipulate curves, surfaces, and solids using Rhino- Understand the basics of iterative design in CAD, digital fabrication, and prototyping in 2D and 3D- Understand and be capable of creating production ready files for laser cutting and/or 3D printing Pre-requisites: Experience with other CAD packages such as Solidworks, Inventor, or Fusion 360 useful but not required. Participants are welcome but not required to bring a laptop running at least Windows 10 or Mac OS X and a preinstalled copy of Rhino (Free, 90 day trial available*). Instruction will be given on a machine running Windows. Is there a minimum age requirement?Minors must be pre-approved and have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Anyone under 16 must have a parent or guardian present. 2. When does registration close?Registration will close when the event has reached capacity or 24 hours before the start of the event. If less than 3 people have registered 24 hours prior to the event, the event is subject to cancellation and a full refund will be issued.4.
