This workshop open to anyone interested in learning how to design toolpaths (GCODE) using RhinoCAM. Machine toolpaths are required to control CNC machines such as a CNC router or mill. RhinoCAM is a paid plugin that runs within Rhino for a streamlined workflow that doesn’t require the designer to move outside of the native Rhino environment. Participants will be introduced to the process of creating various types of toolpaths using a set of geometries representative of those commonly used in projects. Instruction and discussion will focus on the digital design process, material selection, tooling, simulation, and generating production ready files. This workshop does NOT include CNC routing or milling time and will not go over machine operations. To learn how to operate the CNC router or mill you must sign up for one of the workshops that covers basic operations. What to expect: This workshop will primarily focus on developing digital fabrication strategies and workflows using RhinoCAM. While it will be based in Rhino, the topics covered can be employed using other CAD/CAM systems such as Fusion 360. Participants can expect to improve their understanding of the techniques used in machining different geometries ranging from the simple to complex. It assumes prior knowledge of Rhino. Participants can expect a hands-on and project based learning approach. Expected outcomes: - Have a basic understanding of CAM and specifically RhinoCAM if unfamiliar- Feel comfortable working in the Rhino environment to design toolpaths- Understand the basics of designing digital workflows and strategies for physical fabrication- Understand how to develop production ready files Pre-requisites: Beginner level experience with Rhino and desire to learn how to generate toolpaths for running CNC machines. If you are completely new to the Rhino environment and would like more Rhino experience, please consider taking the Introduction to CAD with Rhino workshop. If you are familiar with other CAD packages such as Solidworks, Inventor, or Fusion360 you shouldn't have a problem following along. Participants are welcome but not required to bring a laptop running at least Windows 10 and a preinstalled copy of Rhino (Free, 90 day trial available*). Unfortuantely, RhinoCAM** is not available for the MacOS version of Rhino at this time. Instruction will be given on a machine running Windows. If you do not have a laptop, Inworks has laptops running Windows and the latest version of Rhino for use. * Rhino 5: This is the link to the evaluation version. File saving disabled): - FAQs 1. Is there a minimum age requirement?Minors must be pre-approved and have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Anyone under 16 must have a parent or guardian present. 2. Are there any clothing/ safety requirements?Closed-toe shoes must be worn and long hair must be pulled back 3. When does registration close?Registration will close when the event has reached capacity or 24 hours before the start of the event. If less than 3 people have registered 24 hours prior to the event, the event is subject to cancellation and a full refund will be issued.4. What is student pricing?Any student currently enrolled in an Inwork course is elligible to participate in workshops for free. Inworks students should choose "Inworks Student" from the ticket options. Students from any institution are able to take a workshop at a discounted rate. This includes CU Denver students not currently enrolled in Inworks courses.
