I did not get on a plane for 19 and a half years. I missed family events and even rode on a train with two kids under the age of 5 for over 40 hours each way because I would not, could not get on a plane. A little over five years ago I took Capt. Ron's class and my life has been forever changed.  I was able to accept my dream job that required travel, I was able to go to Florida on two separate occasions for each of my parent's 80th birthdays and best of all, I was able to fly to Hawaii for my 50th birthday.  None of the above would have happened without Capt Ron. I am forever in his debt." --Patti Oliver   If you're like Patti was, you probably can't imagine yourself on an airplane, in flight, with a big smile. But you can make the same choice as Patti: Come fly with us and leave your fear of flying far below you!   For specific flight information click the link below: VIEW/DOWNLOAD IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT THE CLASS AND REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS HERE   Putting it all together: Cleared for Takeoff 201, The Advanced Class   The Advanced Class is designed as a practical next step to follow Cleared for Takeoff 101. Cleared for Takeoff 201, The Advanced Class, provides the opportunity to apply the tools and strategies that you learned in Cleared for Takeoff 101 in a safe environment created with the gathering of like-minded other fearful flyers under the guidance of Capt Ron Nielsen. While it is not a prerequisite to attend Cleared for Takeoff 101, we strongly recommend it because changing the way you think--like improving your golf swing or tennis serve--is best facilitated by a little learning each day as opposed to a lot at one time.   What will I get out of the class?   Some of the benefits reported by past students: Learn how to feel the fear and do it anyway. Learn how to move your attention away from anxious thoughts. Develop tools to interrupt "tunnel thinking" and refocus your mind. Understand how to use tools like the FearlessFlightTM Kit to disrupt obsessive thought loops. Enjoy the mutual support of other fearful flyers. Develop the confidence that you can make every flight a better experience than the last. Enjoy the satisfaction of being able to walk away after the flights and say, "I did it!"   Whether you are a "white-knuckle" flyer or an "avoider"--someone who will do ANYTHING to avoid flying--you will be glad you took the class. IMPORTANT NOTE: TUITION DOES NOT INCLUDE AIRFARE BOTH students and coaches need to purchase tickets from Southwest Airlines for the flights. YOU MUST PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS ON YOUR OWN. He’s a retired school teacher and hadn’t flown for decades. He flew regularly in the Marines but like so many fearful flyers, his comfort level changed and he became too anxious to fly. It was a couple years and multiple classes before David found the courage to get back into the air. He still comes to class to “pay it forward” but also to keep reinforcing the skills and strategies he’s learned. And he’s flown with the Advanced Classes 5 times now. Talk about determination. As a former high school teacher, David knows the importance of learning and commitment. Needless to say, David is flying fearlessly now -- and he’s 79 years old! So, if you want to fly, you can. Just ask David!     Special Pre-flight Video and Preparations   The Advanced Class includes a special Advanced Class Preparation Webinar in the days prior to the flight. It is recorded for replay as well as download to keep with your for future reference. The purpose of the webinar is to prepare you for the specifics of this flight but can be used as a sort of “Capt Ron in a box” for any future flight. In addition, we will meet approximately 2 hours prior to departure time the day of the flight for a detailed and personalized briefing that includes the details of the upcoming flights.  One of the biggest benefits of the Advanced Class is the personal attention from Capt Ron who’s flown the routes that we will fly during the Advanced Class many times and has an intimate knowledge of the routes we will be flying, the flight procedures we will be following, all the way down to the likelihood of turbulence. But perhaps the biggest benefit is the camaraderie that comes with flying with a group of like-minded fellow fearful flyers. With little or know effort, you will find you've become friends with people that just a few hours earlier were complete strangers. All this knowledge and experience merges to help you manage your expectations which is crucial to reducing anticipatory anxiet. Being able to manage your expectations is key to putting yourself in control of your thoughts–the opposite of the out-of-control feelings that most fearful flyers experience.    The Flights   Don't be alarmed by the jitters leading up to the flights. After all, your mind senses that you're serious about pushing through your fear of flying and may put up one last bit of anxiety. But, equally important is not to be surprised if withing a couple mintues after takeoff, you experience a sense of relief and serenity unlike anything you expected. That's very typical. And by the time we level off about 20 minutes into the flight, you may wonder what took you so long to take this step. Once we land in Burbank, we typically find a spot in a little restaurant on the arrival concourse to debrief. Everyone tends to be so relaxed that they find themselves getting bored waiting for our return flight. Imagine being bored about flying! Most flyers experience very few of the issues that once troubled them—as recently as when they arrived at the airport that morning. Don't be surprised to see some of your classmates fall asleep on the way home. It's true! Maybe you will be one of those. (And Capt Ron has been known to capture a picture of anyone who falls asleep for his scrapbook!) After we deplane in Phoenix, we’ll again have a short debrief before sending everyone off as fledgling Fearless Flyers! This includes a group picture and some heartfelt cheers. Once we arrive back in Phoenix and deplane, we'll do a quick debrief and say our goodbye's. Tom Raasch, a formerly fearful flyer and someone who has now flown in the Advanced Class at least a half dozen times offered what has become a favorite quote of mine: “If you want to overcome your fear of flying, sooner or later you’ve got to get on the damned plane!” -- Tom Raasch Tom was one of those who marveled at how surprised he was once he flew with us in the Advanced Class and the importane of actually flying.   Registration Information   Get the details here: VIEW/DOWNLOAD IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT THE CLASS AND REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS HERE   Follow the instructions and get ready to break through your fear of flying. Time is of the essence as I limit the size of the Advanced Class and Southwest Airlines steadily moves the fares up as the flight date approaches.   One More Thing...   We have purposely organized the classes such that you get at least one opportunity to attend Cleared for Takeoff 101 before flying with the Advanced Class. In some cases, you will have two opportunities. To find out when the next Cleared for Takeoff 101 Class will be held, please go here.   CFT 201 Tuition: Remember, the tuition is $150 and is payable for STUDENTS ONLY. Registration for spouses/partners/family/friends are free but limited to one unless you have special circumstances. Only students pay the tuition, but all students and coaches (spouses, partners, friends, family, etc) need to purchase a ticket. If you want to leave your fear of flying on the ground, this is the best and most fun you'll have doing it!   What if I get to the airport and I don't feel like it's my day to fly?    It’s rare, but it happens. I never “push” people to go beyond their limits. But consider this: The most difficult aspect of getting past fear can be going through it. And you have to go through your fear to get to the other side. Remember, “Courage is not the absence of fear but rather going forward in the face of it.” So if you don’t fly on the day of class, you’ve taken a big step toward going forward in the face of your fear. Some of my biggest heroes are folks who did not fly the day originally scheduled but returned to fly in a subsequent class. You will find information about this contingency in the information here: VIEW/DOWNLOAD IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT THE CLASS AND REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS HERE   Repeat Flyers - $100 Off!
